Celebrating Colours : Flower Confetti

Each Friday I get fresh flowers from the market for our home. I like to have them around to welcome the weekend and they stay fresh through the week and make the home all cheerful and a happy space to be in.

I like to scatter them all around the house; kitchen and the washrooms included. And each time we choose a different "vase".A pickle jar, a beer mug, a tea cup, a trifle bowl, a biscuit tin..the list is endless ( Read an earlier post on this here and get some more ideas here).

But what I have observed is much as I like to experiment with the vase I alwayshy away from experimenting with the colours of the flowers. Its always white and whenever there is any colour I like to stick with just one.

The fact that we are celebrating colours here at purplehomes all this month is a good enough reason to do away with one colour and adorn my home with a  confetti of colourful flowers.

Here are some colourful flower arrangements to help you, if you like me always go with white :)

Don't they all look gorgeous? I now do know what I am picking up from our neighbor flower market tomorrow :)

More vases from my home

Did you enjoy the last post

Today I bring to you some more ideas...this time from my home. Like I was saying I don't really like using proper vases and am always trying to reuse a lot of other stuff lying around my home as "vases". Here are some pictures that you must have seen on my blog in many different posts over the years. I have put them all together for this post today. Hope you like it.
Pretty dainty green tea cups are perfect for holding a single bloom
Painted bird cage carrying flowers and diyas (I am guilty of buying these so not really reusing them:))
Dip serving bowls hold flowers and are perfect for floating candles too
Yes, thats my trifle bowl doubling up as a vase with big red stones and  some water underneath
A Chai stand works well too
Or use the very common Lota :)
How about the aachar ka martbaan (Traditional Indian pickle jar)?
And finally, a kettle and espresso cups, anyone?

I hope you've been inspired and are already getting ideas. Do remember to look inside your kitchen for many many vases, this Diwali:)

And before I say bye, a reminder. Its the last day to sign up for the all the giveaways : 1,2,3 & 4

Hurry up!

Bring out those vases

It's that time of the year when your home should be full of fresh flowers. The weather is just right and festivals are just around the corner. I like to have flowers in my home all year round and always buy a bunch every weekend. It just makes me feel so happy. Not always does one have a lot of time on hand to create elborate floral arrangements and plusometimes the "casual" bunch looks better than a made up one. What do you think?

I love to use whatever I have around the home and use them as vases. Infact I don't like proper "vases" and prefer the hundreds of other things that I have to make up for vases.

Here are some pictures to inspire you.

Teacups & kettles.

I quite like the idea of using teacups & kettles. They look adorable, don't they?

All those milk bottles & egg cartons.

Its always great to reuse and recycle. And several tiny bunches grouped together always make a statement and make it look all the more festive. What do you think?

Did you get some ideas to dress up your home?
Tomorrow I will share with you some pictures from my home...tons of floral pictures :)

Oh! and before I end, do remember to sign up for the all the giveaways : 1,2,3 & 4
Three more days to go!

April Fetish!!!

Isn't this the prettiest picture ever! I am loving the lovely mix of the bottles and the jar, the blue and the green, the pink flowers and the rustic iron stand.

Want to have a look at the full room? Ah! Look at all that white and the exquisite chandeliers. The ladder with so many of those pretty bottles make such a statement. And that gorgeous tablescape! I think I am in decor heaven. The pink drinks in the mason jars, the tall vase with the flowers, more pretty flowers in the jar and ofcourse the bottle display...

I have a feeling I can go on and on about this room. Did you see the table in the background. Sunny flowers and another breathtaking glass jar!

April Fetish!

People who know me really well are aware about my obsession for collecting old bottles (mason jars included). I absolutely lurve having them around. A group of them with flowers/without flowers. A solitary bottle with a twig in it. Tall ones with bamboos in them. The options are endless.

I am currently on the lookout for bottle arrangements. These pictures are so pretty.Enjoy and watch out this space for more!

Wow! Look at this gorgeous collection of vintage blue bottles sitting pretty in a tray

What a lovely idea to just use some clear ones with just stems in them

Fashion i just don't seem to understand !!

What you are seeing in the picture are not gift boxes or flower wraps.
They are CHIC MORNING SICKNESS BAGS !!!! I swear ! I am not making this up. See them here.

Am i the only person who can't relate to this kind of creativity ? Are people really shelling out money to buy these? Whatever may be the answer i just had to share this here, because who said creativity has boundaries!!

There was one flower and then there was another...

This sunday i got one flower. So i put it in my red vase.

Then i got some more. Out came another vase.

And then there were many many more. The ice buckets said take us out. So did the white rocks and mauli (red traditional thread).

Another vase wore a necklace of shiny red beads and white shells and mauli.

Three teeny weeny tealights begged me to take them out too. We want flowers too, they pleaded.

Others followed. So a shell was tied around them with the mauli. Tiny red pebbles and water also planted themselves in and soon they were ready for floating petals.

And soon my home was filled with beautiful red carnations and white tuberoses. Lots of rocks, red pebbles, shells, beads, mauli giving them company.

Trend Alert

This morning while browsing through Elle Decor i read about this Trend Alert, Floral patterns are IN. They say "Flowers burst into full bloom on the season’s prettiest designs, from delicately painted tableware to boldly patterned textiles."

As I read about it I realized I didn’t possess a single bed sheet/cover, a vase, a piece of china, a rug or anything for that matter with a floral pattern. I have never been the types to like floral prints. Do you like floral prints?

But on the other hand i love fresh flowers. I always try and get them home. On big days like Diwali, New Year, etc i always make it a point to go to the Phoolwali mandi at Mehrauli and fill up my home with flowers in every little nook and corner. Even when I don’t have fresh flowers at home I like getting greens from my little garden in the balcony and arranging them in transparent glass vases. So I guess I am more of a fresh flower person and not the pattern types. And I don't think even this trend alert will make me buy stuff with floral designs. What do you think of trends? Will you go and get a little bit of trend in your house even if you are not the type to believe it or you just go with what you like? I'd love to hear about this from you.

Leaving you with some pictures we had taken at a Flower fair. Enjoy.

p.s. Hey, i just found something floral at my place. This batik painting i did at this awesome centre for batik at Kuala Lumpur in 2006. More about this in another post.
